![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I believe quite a few NWN servers and players migrated there too. That game was regarded to have saved Funcom and continues to be hugely popular. The closest recent example I can think of is Conan Exiles, which focuses purely on multiplayer and has fairly extensive modding, and the devs focus on making new content instead of obscure ports or new renderers. We can hate on Neverwinter MMO - I hate Neverwinter MMO and never got past some generic lowbie quest about going into a sewer! But even then it's been going for 7 years and has twice the Steam playerbase of NWNEE. The majority of NWN players play single player because the top button goes to single player and at no point does the game nudge or incentivize you to play multiplayer.Īs you mentioned, that was also very different times when MMO, MOBAs, battle royales and other multiplayer-focused genres weren't as popular. I feel that's a product design and marketing issue. Would a MP only NWN3 work now? Posssibly, but I know I for one would have no interest in it. I think it's also fair to say that a lot of the people who stuck with NWN, stuck with it because of MP and PWs. It was also a different time and more people play MP now than did back when the game released. were making them for PWs and MP projects. A lot of the people who were making new tilesets, models, etc. However, OEI didn't look at the content creators. I can't remember the exact numbers but it was something like 80% only played the main campaigns and a similar percentage of those remaining only played SP modules. The majority of the people who played NWN only played the official campaigns and of those who did play community content the majority of them only played SP modules. The decision was based on data from Bioware on how people played NWN. There was a post on the old Bioware NWN2 boards where a dev from OEI explained why they chose to focus on SP for NWN2. If they focused solely on MP NWN would have failed. ![]()
